Foreign Investment in Burma: How foreign investment is sustaining the SPDC

The people of Burma continue to fall further and further into the poverty abyss, whilst those in power continue to increase their wealth and stranglehold of control over the population funded by income from foreign investment. Foreign investment in Burma is increasing, despite continued sanctions from many western countries. And while investors keep pouring in, the Burmese junta will not be pressured into changing their ways.

The Salween Dams: Bringing Risk and Tragedy to Burma and Thailand

The proposed Hut Gyi dam on the Salween River will displace 10,000 villagers. Despite claims of minimal impacts from the Burmese junta and Thai authorities (the Royal Thai Government is investing in the project) the impacts of this dam will devastate communities living along the river and lead to the further oppression of these villagers. The profits from the electricity will not reach the people, but rather continue to support the Burmese junta.
