Celebrating Karen New Year in Mae La Refugee Camp,Thai Burma Border

There were coloured lights and ‘Happy New Year’ signs throughout the camp. The atmosphere in the camp was very upbeat and happy, and I could hear people practising songs and chants all the time while I was there.

Free And Fair? Burma's 2010 Elections

So what does all this mean for the elections this year? Well, unfortunately and unsurprisingly, very few observers think they will be free or fair. Generals of the junta are thought to already be arranging for loyal military officers to take political positions as representatives of the Union Solidarity and Development Association (USDA), a junta-backed political organisation.

This video present a short documentary on the 2008 constitution and its effects on the 2010 elections.This video will be taken inside Burma, and used to educate groups of affected ethnic groups on their voting rights. We hope that this will motivate the people to mobilize and change their own situation. Hopefully this video will help to show people that they are not alone, and that people outside Burma care about their situation.
