A Day Without Fear,
A Life Without Fear
Burma Issues
January, 1997
In 1998, people around the word suddenly became aware of Burma , a country sealed off from the eyes of the international community since General Ne Win 's military coup in 1962. In August, an uprising thrust Burma into the international spotlights as hundreds of thousands of people rallied in the streets of Burma cities and towns, calling for multi-party elections and an end to military dictatorship. By September, the world watched in horror as video footage smuggled out of the country showed troops shooting down unarmed demonstrators as the military reestablished its total control over the country.
Fear dwells within us for much of our lives. Sometimes fear emerges as an overpowering force that manipulates almost every action of our days; while other times, fear subtly waits, hidden behind our immediate joys and excitements, yet still influencing some of our decisions and actions.
While it is possible to use this book as an individual, it was designed for use among small groups of people who commit themselves to meeting regularly for seven days of study, meditation and exploration. This could be done for seven consecutive days or once a week for seven weeks depending on each group's preference.
